Can HIV/AIDS be transmitted through saliva?
• Although there are very small amounts of HIV in saliva and transmission just from contact with saliva (such as drinking out of the same cup as an HIV-infected person) has never been reported, there is a theoretical risk of transmission during kissing, when an individual may have tiny cuts or sores in the mouth. In this case, the transmission is most likely through small amounts of blood rather than saliva. But remember, there are many other STDs that can be transmitted through saliva.
