Can Hillary Clinton Escape White House Scandals?

LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: The Senate Ethics Committee has cleared the junior senator from New York state of any possible violations related to her $8 million book deal. Senator Clinton signed the contract with Simon & Schuster, you’ll recall, before she was sworn in as U.S. senator. The committee concluded yesterday the former first lady simply was paid the market rate for her memoirs. Mrs. Clinton already has received about a third of that fee; additional payments are to be made over the next several years. Mrs. Clinton isn’t exactly immune to her husband’s pardon problems: Denise Rich reported contributed $109,000 to Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Senate campaign. Asked today whether she would return that money, Mrs. Clinton replied she is waiting for the investigation to unfold and would respond according.
