Can high heat and humidity cause iBook to shut down?
In 2006 I was given a gray (graphite?) clamshell iBook. I’ve purchased 2 batteries, but they won’t hold a charge, so it’s always plugged in. It’s not connected to the Internet. All I use it for is freelance writing and playing Free Cell solitaire. Last week I was using my iBook when it suddenly blacked out and completely shut down. I turned it back on, and after an 8 minute startup, everything seems okay, except that the calendar was December 1969. I resent date and time, did a back up on the Imation Super Disk Drive I got with the computer, and I shut down properly. The next day I had a normal startup time, spent an hour or so writing (saving after every sentence), then the iBook blacked out again. I turned it back on and after another 8 minute startup I was back to 1969. I printed out the novel I’m currently writing, because I was afraid of losing hundreds of hours of work. This area is having a heat wave, and there are times when my little efficiency apartment is about 88ยบ F, even w
