You can get flash floods, from when you get too much rain and the ground is already saturated You can get floods from storm surges from coastal storms. Katrina was an excellent example of this You can get floods from an ice dam. In the early 90’s the Red River of the North flooded when there was an ice dam. The river flows north, and the northern part of the river was still frozen and that prevented water from flowing down the river causing a flood.
