Can Health Plus members on a “closed” plan add dependents after May 1?
Members cannot be added to our “closed” plans unless they are newborns within 60 days of birth, adoptees within 60 days of placement, or court-appointed dependents within 31 days of the court order date. After May 1, however, a Health Plus member on a “closed” plan can submit a plan change for one of our “Engage /open” plans with an effective date of June 1 or later along with a full application for the new dependent age 19 years & older to join the new “Engage II/open” plan. Medical Underwriting will review the application for the new dependent. If the dependent is approved, Underwriting will then coordinate the changes for the entire family. After May 1, new dependents under 19 years cannot be added until the new “open enrollment” period to be determined. The same requirement will apply as above—the family must change to one of our “Engage /open” plans to add the new dependent.
