Orgasm causes uterine contractions, but it is important to note that uterine contractions are present throughout pregnancy. Labor is not going to start because of the uterine contractions of orgasm unless the body is ready to go into labor anyway. If you are full term and “ripe” for delivery, however, semen coming in contact with the cervix can “cue” the body to begin labor. Semen contains a large amount of prostaglandin, a hormone associated with the onset of labor. Your healthcare provider should have the last word when it comes to sexual intercourse and pregnancy, especially during the final stage of pregnancy.
