Can Harry Potter perform basic algebra or understand basic scientific principles?
They miss a lot of what we get in high school. They don’t read literature. They take the History of Magic but know nothing about English history. There aren’t any music or art classes at Hogwarts. The whole wizarding world seems isolated. Even their love songs like “Cauldron full of hot strong love” reference magic, as if wizards and witches don’t fall in love like the rest of us. If it were real, I’d actually resent it. They have potions for curing plain-old broken bones, not just magically broken bones. They keep it to themselves and don’t let the rest of us have any. I’ve never heard of a wizard dying of cancer. As for compound interest, it sounds like Gringott’s doesn’t pay it. The vault seemed to hold Harry’s actual galleons, the exact same ones his parents put in. I’ve actually pondered writing a book called The Economics of Harry Potter, trying to explain where the food comes from and how much Minerva McGonagall gets paid, and all that.
