Can hand held GPS devices be used for driving?

The only problem with using a handheld GPS for driving is that the screen is smaller and they’re harder to read. They also don’t have voice prompts. But I frequently use my hand held in the hands of a passenger to help me navigate. I have also been in the passenger seat and gave the driver directions from my handheld GPS. I need a handheld GPS more than I need one for driving and I’m not going to buy both. The handheld one works just fine as long as there’s someone to read it for you.
