Can guinea pigs carry diseases like rat bite fever or rabies?

Yes to rabies, not sure to rat-bite fever. All mammals are susceptible to rabies. As to other diseases many are species specific (beaver fever, cat-scratch fever, rabbit fever) and I’ve little doubt that there are diseases that can be passed on by guinea pigs. That being said guinea pigs aren’t normaly exposed to much outside of their immediate environment so I’d guess that you’re likely pretty safe. It is possible to bring things into the environment with you when you come in from outside of it and the guinea pig could be exposed that way. But I don’t think you’ve really anythingto worry about.
