Can graduate students grade for W courses?
Yes, graduate students may grade for W courses as long as they are supervised and monitored by a faculty member. The University Writing Center can also provide training for graduate students who are teaching W courses; they are welcome to attend faculty workshops, and we will also provide customized training. Some ways in which we can help include designing a rubric for a major assignment and working with the graduate students to norm their grading using it; reviewing basic rules of grammar and punctuation; reviewing documentation; showing how to make effective comments on student papers.
