Yes, during the alloying process, to harden the gold, other metals are added. These produce the correct metallurgical properties required for the particular jewellery piece. They also produce different colours. Gold is popular in three colours :- yellow, rose and white. Green, blue and purple are also possible. Currently, pure Welsh gold is only available in yellow or rose colour.
