Can glass engravings be coloured?

0

Opinion varies amongst engravers. We take a conservative view: engraving has a subtle aesthetic about it that has been admired for centuries. It is important to match the glass with the engraving. Lighting, background colour & contents are likely to be important for display. For everyday use items which endure cleaning & washup we recommend engraving only. There has been a more recent interest in coloured engravings & this is indeed possible. Inevitably such colouring will be a paint or other type of infill. For display items, particularly dark surfaces (such as a coloured bottle), it can enhance an item considerably. While colouring may deteriorate over time, the original engraving provides a good key & colour can be reapplied if & when necessary.
