Can girls get athletic scholarships for college rowing?
Yes, because rowing is growing so fast for women across the country, there are many colleges that offer athletic scholarships. In each of the past seven years, at least one Groton girl has received a rowing scholarship. Who are the coaches? Andy Anderson is the head coach and has coached at Groton since 1980. He has also coached boats for the United States National team, boats that have won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the World Championships of rowing. He writes a popular rowing column, Ask Dr Rowing, for The Rowing News, the country’s largest rowing publication. Tiffany Doggett rowed in high school at Noble and Greenough and at Andover; she rowed for the US Junior National team and later for Cornell. This year she is coaching our 3rd and 4th boats. In past years she has coached our fifth and sixth boats. She is famous for her enthusiasm and for the fun her girls have rowing on the river with her.
