Can fully blind people use a computer?

0

Yes. I am blind, and I’m doing it right now. My fiancee is also blind, and he is currently in college studying Computer Science while making money on the side as a freelance programmer/software engineer. We use computers with text-to-speech software (or screen reading software) that converts text and other items on screen to synthesized speech. These programs also allow us to navigate the computer using only the keyboard (as opposed to a mouse). Blind people typically learn how to type as children. We touch-type, meaning we know the keyboard by memory. If you’d like to see an example or try a demo of the kind of software that blind people use to access their computers, google “Freedom Scientific JAWS”. JAWS is the program that my fiancee and I use, but there are many others as well.
