While there were reports that permits, passports or ID cards were checked when buying train tickets in March 2009, the situation has been changed in April. Now nothing will be checked when buying train tickets, some Asian-looking foreigners were reported to be able to take the train without any permits (no passport checks), it’s hard to know if it works okay for white people. At the time of writing, I still suggest you to get all the necessary permits before buying the train tickets.
