Can fleas carry blood borne diseases?
Fleas are infamous for carrying the Plague in Medieval Europe. That is an uncommon problem today. But they also carry the larvae of tapeworms which they can transmit, mostly to animals but also humans. They can carry a kind of Typhus but that’s rare. Most often they are just an annoyance that take a drink of your blood and leave a red spot that may itch. Scratching these red bumps can cause skin infections and/or a rash depending on your body’s reaction. And I could find no reference to them spreading Hepatitis. Sometimes I wonder if fleas and gnats were just put here to annoy us.
