Can Feline Cancer Be Prevented?
It’s not possible to prevent any cancer right now, but it’s possible to lower your furball’s risk for this disease. Keeping him inside, so he’s not exposed to cats who may be infected with feline leukemia or FIV, is the best way to prevent it. Avoid exposing your pet to cigarette smoke. Felines who are kept inside are often at higher risk for cancer in cats simply because they can’t get away from somebody who smokes. Your cat is not only inhaling the smoke, but he’s also swallowing particles from cigarette smoke when he licks his fur and grooms himself. Spend time petting your feline friend every day. Be on the alert for any warning signs of cancer in cats, as mentioned above. If you find any unusual lumps, or if you suspect he may be sick, take your kitty to the vet as soon as you can. You may not be able to prevent this disease completely, but you can certainly lower your pet’s risk of developing it as he gets older.
