Can faster than light speed travel ever be achieved?”

Hypothetical particles called tachyons travel faster than light at all times, thereby getting around the special theory of relativity. But these have not been observed, merely postulated and they do not violate special relativity. There is also some mainstream thought that spacetime distortions can allow matter and/or communication to travel faster than light (basically the wormholes you see on Star Trek). By extension, if you could create spacetime distortions that were stable, maybe you could allow an object to travel faster than light. So much of this is theory based on theory based on theory that its not something we’ll see anytime soon.
