Can Fair Trade Certified™ apparel be made in the United States?
We support apparel made in the USA and American workers. Because our mission is to make global trade more equitable, we will first pilot test with apparel and linens manufactured abroad. Weak enforcement of labor laws in foreign countries has perpetuated a “race to the bottom” in labor standards. By rewarding factories that don’t offer the lowest price at the expense of workers, we hope to reverse the race to the bottom and start a new “race to the top.” We may explore the possibility of domestic manufacturing for future phases of the pilot test.
