Can failover be triggered by an interface failure?

0

A. In releases 2.x and above, a feature called “interface monitoring” is available. A number of interface can be monitored. Each time one of them fails, a counter is incremented. That counter is compared to a user-defined treshold that, once crossed, causes a failover to happen. Be aware though that interface monitoring is not for everybody: it can take a long time before triggering the failover (45 seconds!) and only applies to certain topologies. Please refer to this document for more details. A feature called autostate whereby the Sup tells the FWSM that the last interface in a given VLAN just went down is available in CatOS 7.6(5) or IOS 12.2(18)SXF5, providing sub-second failover under certain scenarios!
