Yes, In most cases there are no problems installing over the top of an existing installation. To keep the default settings do not allow the configuration file to be overwritten when prompted. The only exceptions are when upgrading from version 2.0 and below and the user upgrading is different to the user who originally installed the program or downgrading to an earlier version of the program, in these cases uninstall the old program first.
