Can electrical stimulation be combined with other types of veterinary medicine?
Electrical stimulation can be combined with other types of therapy and often is a part of a larger rehabilitation program. E-stim is most commonly used at the start of rehabilitation programs as a means to strengthen muscles that have atrophied or are not in use, for pain, or for swelling. In general, e-stim integrates well into a treatment plan that utilizes either traditional or alternative forms of veterinary medicine. If your companion animal is receiving e-stim therapy from a practitioner other than your regular veterinarian, it is imperative that both individuals are kept updated about the ongoing treatment in order to provide coordinated care of your pet, to allow proper evaluation of treatment and to minimize any avoidable interactions or interferences. At Integrative Pet Care our veterinarians, who are well-trained and versed in a variety of rehab modalities including e-stim therapy, collaborate with the pets primary care veterinarian to appropriately coordinate care.
