Can electric motors(dc) be used as generators? ?
There are several types of DC motors. Some will work well as generators when you simply spin the shaft. Others will probably not work at all. If the motor has permanent magnets, it will almost certainly work well. If the field winding is connected in series with the armature it will probably not work at all. If the field winding is connected in parallel with the armature, it will probably work if there is enough residual magnetism in the motor. If the field winding has a separate power supply, it will work if you supply power to the field winding.
