Can eCAT be used to manage scientific inventory?

Yes! eCAT can be used to manage inventory, whether it’s freezer samples, animals, or supplies. For a typical freezer management situation, using a table to represent the freezer box contents is the best method currently available in e-CAT. In the table you are placing links to sample records. You create new classes to represent freezers, racks, samples, etc. If a freezer has a specific number of racks, you could make these fields of the freezer (reference fields, which you fill in with a reference to a rack record.) For an overview of eCAT as an inventory management tool, watch the video Managing Inventory with eCAT.
