Can EA Interceptors fire defensively against laser weapons?

Not exactly. The confusion about this results from two statements in the rules. When you read what is on p. 27, you need to keep your finger on pp. 43 & 44. The paragraph on p. 27 is referring to the “energy web” that is detailed on pages 43-44. The gist is that while the interceptor cannot do a NORMAL DEFENSIVE FIRE (i.e., apply its interceptor rating against the laser shot), it does force the laser shot to use the ship’s LOWER defense rating (which is caused by the “energy web”). This web is in effect as long as the shot falls into an arc that has at least one functional interceptor.
