According to a new survey, Dorset Apple Cake has the edge over the traditional Dorset Knob in becoming the food icon of the County but does it have what it takes to win the Pasty Wars? As Badger Ales launches the hunt to find The Dish of Dorset, the survey shows that a clear champion is required to put Dorset of the map for food tourists When it comes to food heroes, an overwhelming majority of consumers identify the Pasty with Cornwall, but Dorset food has something of an identity crisis, according to a new survey commissioned by Badger Ales to launch its hunt to find The Dish of Dorset. While 95% of the 400 respondents voted the Pasty as the dish they most closely identify with Cornwall, they had a mixed response when asked the same question about Dorset. The clear winner was Dorset Apple Cake, which netted 21% of the vote, closely chased by the Cream Tea with 17% something normally associated with neighbouring Devon.
