Can dogs such as Alaskan Malamutes and huskies be let off the lead?
Malamutes are sled dogs and incredibly strong. They can never be trusted off the lead. Even if their recall is very good never let them out of your sight while off the lead. They have a very high prey drive and will chase small animals (and sometimes smaller dogs) and can easily out run even a very fast human. They were used to pull freight and as such have very good stamina. The best place to let them off the lead would be a secure enclosed area. I would recommend that if you haven’t much experience of huskies then you research them THOROUGHLY and know exactly what you are letting yourself in for. Try visiting different breeders and meeting their dogs. Dog shows and race meets are good too. Siberian huskies and alaskan malamutes can make wonderful pets but they can also be difficult dogs to own.
