Can dogs get sick from bird droppings?
Birds can have coccidia which is in their droppings. Dogs get the parasite when they consume the droppings. It is a difficult parasite to get rid of since vets can only give meds to limit reproduction and the dog’s own immune system must destroy it. I really doubt your neighbor can rid a tree of birds, but you are probably increasing the population by feeding. Since it only takes one infected bird to infect a dog, it’s not likely you are going to solve her problem. She could try to block the dog’s access to the trees and also clean up daily. You may look into adding a medicated chicken starter feed to your bird seed which will kill the parasite in the birds. Chickens almost always carry the coccidia parasite so they are fed a medicated feed. I have only given it to chickens and ducks so I don’t know if it would harm the type of birds you have.
