Can DNA be taken from a grandmother and grandchild to determine paternity?

If the alleged father is deceased or unavailable, it is possible to obtain DNA from known relatives of the alleged father in a paternity case however it is not possible in advance to predict whether the results will be conclusive. In such cases, we recommend testing the mother of the child, as well as both parents of the alleged father, against the child. If only one of the paternal grandparents is available for testing, we recommend obtaining samples from known full siblings of the alleged father as well.
