Can distributed/replicated systems be set up?
A number of features allow distributed applications to be put together using Polyhedra. • the Polyhedra client-server architecture is heterogeneous, so while clients and servers can be on the same machine, it is also possible to have them on multiple machines, of differing hardware types and running different operating systems. Polyhedra has a hot-standby fault tolerance mechanism (see separate FAQ) to which clients can set up fault-tolerant connections; it is even possible to connect to and query the standby server, either to offload the master database, or to ensure the cleint on the standby board are ready to go at a moment’s notice when switchover occurs. • Polyhedra has a read-only replica database mechanism, to allow remote clients to have a local, up-to-date copy of the database for analysis purposes. • Polyhedra databases can be programmed, and by this means it is possible to set up connections to other Polyhedra databases and then establish active queries, so that records in o
