The answer to this question depends on how well the applications servers and the data base servers are distributed. In general ERP software vendors like SAP recommend a single database store and multiple applications servers to provide performance as well as reliability. In such situations the question does not arise. In architecture that are more truly distributed as the one followed by Ramco it is theoretically possible for multiple applications using multiple RDBMS. In general such heterogeneity is not recommended unless it is absolutely essential.
