Can deceiving symptoms develop during diagnosis?
If the patient has only slight complaints of hip pain, or if experiencing pain during hip movement we initially get a film taken. This film will not determine anything in the initial stage. It usually takes three months for the film identify make any findings. We must have a fracture line for us to determine anything on film. This delays diagnosis period and reduces the success rate of the treatment. Early diagnosis is possible with scintigraphy. However, these days MR is the easiest method. MR allows us to image the oedema collected inside the femoral head. The most confusing instance is development of temporary oedema. If we are suspicious of temporary oedema we keep the patient under observation. This is why we call our patients for a reassessment in 4-6 weeks time. It is essential for the patient to refrain from putting pressure on their hip during this period. We allow patients to keep mobilised with the help of crutches. We later realise MR check-up and we can tell it?s temporary
