Can debit cards be used to rent a car?
Although some local car rental agencies accept debit cards, currently only two national car rental agencies, Alamo and Budget, accept debit cards for rentals (but only if the debit card contains the VISA or MasterCard logo on the face of the card). However, because of an increase in consumer requests, that number very well may increase. If possible, it is best to make rental reservations with cards that are not connected to checking or savings accounts. Can one use a credit card for reservations and then pay with cash when the car is returned? Although most rental agencies require a major credit card to be presented at the time of rental, when the vehicle is returned, the renter can pay the bill by cash, share draft, or check, if it is allowed by the agency.
