Can data be backed up directly to a network drive (network file server)?
Yes, but for reasons of performance, stability and lower network load we recommend that data be backed up directly onto local drives of the backup server (internal drives and disk arrays as well as external drives and mass storage devices connected to the backup server by SCSI, eSATA, USB). Network-attached storage (NAS) devices can be used for archive replication. To back up information onto a network drive you need to map the network resource under a local drive letter and set that drive as the backup location. This has to be done directly in the FBS Server Settings ->Network resources. If the network drive shares resources using SMB/CIFS (SAMBA) and FTP protocols, use the SMB/CIFS protocol for much better performance.
