I have also heard that spicy foods can bring on labour along with other suggestions such as sex and jogging up and down stairs (but not together!). I am not so sure that spicy foods are the answer. If that were the case, we might expect that the average delivery date or length of pregnancy would be shorter in India and other eastern countries, but I don’t believe that it is.
