Yes, costochondritis could cause breathlessness making it seem like a heart attack or like what happened to me when I started having symptoms issues with my lung. The Pain Management doctor I went to had to send me for an x-ray to rule out a disease called left lung disease. I would recommend double checking with your doctor as well to see what they say. With my costochondritis I never had the breathlessness but I did have pain in my chest wall and breast as well as lung area.
