Can Comfrey Tonic be used on all plants?
Comfrey is naturally rich in a highly assimilable form of potassium, an element which favours and accelerates the budding, flowering and fruiting processes of plants. Therefore, any plant cultivated for its flowers or fruit will greatly benefit from regular applications of comfrey liquid throughout the growing season with noticibly increased vigour and yield. Examples include perennials like apples, plums and raspberries etc, and the annuals of the potato family (potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines etc.), the courgette family (including melons and pumpkins) and greedy plants like sweetcorn and various border shrubs (roses etc.). Conversely, there are many vegetables which we strive to prevent from flowering (or “bolting”), these include the leaf vegetables (lettuces, chards, chives, spinach), stem plants (rhubarb, asparagus), roots (beets, radish), bulbs (onions, shallots), and head vegetables (brocolli, cauliflower) and should only receive comfrey applications at germination through to the
