Can colored gemstone enhancements and/or treatments effect a gems value?

Yes! In some instances and limited varieties of gemstones, there can be little to no effect between the values of enhanced, treated vs. natural gemstones. But the truth of the matter is that for most gemstones, especially high quality Rubies and Sapphires for example, certified and/or proven gemstones that are untreated or unheated are considered extremely rare and most often will command a high market price when compared to treated material. I do recommend that in this example, when purchasing Rubies and Sapphires, please be aware that unheated/untreated specimens are extremely rare, and as a result, always purchase from a reliable source or have the seller’s claim verified by a graduate gemologist (G.G. GIA). Recommended Gemological Laboratories: We suggest that you only seriously consider high end gemstones with accompanying laboratory reports from major Gemological laboratories (GIA, AGTA, AGS, Gubelin Swiss LABS for example) certifying or verifying the stones origin (birthplace).
