It is estimated to cost the nation billions annually. Two thirds of American adults are considered overweight/obese. It has been suggested that certain ethnic groups, especially African Americans, are less likely to receive weight management. This study evaluated the prevalence of overweight/obese African American patients seeking colorectal cancer screening and the frequency of physician recommended weight management.Methods: A retrospective medical chart review was performed where medical records of consecutive patients referred to a continuity GI clinic for colorectal cancer screening during a three-month period were evaluated.
