Can coal turn into a diamond if there is enough pressure on it?

Yes. If you want to make it happen, put a lump of coal on a chair seat, and put a couple telepone books on top of it, and see what happens: You’ll be amazed!

Man-made diamonds are made from pure carbon. However coal is not pure carbon (silica, trace metals, water, methane) and probably would not work. Natural diamonds do not form from coal. They are begin very deep in the earths crust in a special type of magma. They crystallize when the magma cools and depressurizes coming to the surface. Diamonds are found in a rock called kimberlite.
