Can Cipramil be taken with a sleeping tablet?
In addition to relieving symptoms of depression, Citalopram has anti-anxiety properties that often lead to a relatively rapid onset of sleep improvement within a few days of commencing therapy. However, it is possible that some patients will require additional sedative medication during the early stages of treatment. A moderate dose of a sleeping tablet may be co-prescribed with Citalopram in this way to aid sleep. No pharmacodynamic interactions have been noted in clinical studies in which citalopram has been given together with benzodiazepine sleeping tablets. Dynamic interactions between citalopram and herbal remedy St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) can occur, resulting in an increase in undesirable effects.
