Can Christians be good parents?
Yes, of course Christians can be good parents, AntigoneRising! My parents are both Christian and I’m OK. Some of my best friends were brought up by Christian parents and are wonderful people. Of course, there are REALLY CRAPPY Christian parents that expect way too much out of their kids and don’t teach them anything but religion.
Christians who follow the Biblical mandates for parenting make the BEST parents. Non-Christians certainly can make good parents and many times make better parents than some Christians but there are so many things the Bible says about parenting: Fathers provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nuture and admonition of the Lord. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction will drive it far from him. And thou shalt teach them [the commandments of the Lord] when thou sittest down and when thou risest up… Children are an heritage of the Lord… Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the kingdom of heaven. Woe unto him which offendeth one of these little ones. – What makes a Christian parent unique though is the fact that he has a perfect Father from which to learn and the Christian has the unique perspective of instilling in the child very early of his need of a Savior.
