Can children really get breast cysts?
I am very concerned because my daughter who has a lump in her breast, directly behind the nipple. We visited the doctor, who told us that it’s an infected cyst but I am still worried as I don’t understand why an eight year old girl would develop a cyst in her breast. She is completely flat chested and has not shown any signs of puberty yet. The other reason that this is worrying me is that her (paternal) grandmother died of breast cancer and I know that breast cancer runs in families. When I asked the doctor why she got a cyst so young, he was very vague. He just put her on antibiotics and told me that it should reduce within a week. But if she were an adult, her lump would be checked out as a matter of course, so I am not very happy with this treatment. Please can you advice me whether I should push for further tests to reassure me that my little girl is healthy?
