Can children and adolescents take beta interferon and glatiramer acetate?

0

Although much of the information and guidance for doctors on disease modifying drugs relates to adults, beta interferon and glatiramer acetate can be prescribed to children and adolescents by a neurologist. Since the ABN’s 2001 guidelines, studies have shown that beta interferon and glatiramer acetate are safe to use to treat MS in those under 18 years old. Children are being prescribed these drugs in the UK and, more widely, in the USA and Canada. See the section on Childhood MS for more about managing MS in children.
