Can chickenpox cause complications?
Most children who are otherwise healthy and get chickenpox won’t have any complications from the disease. However, each year in the United States about 9,000 people are hospitalized for chickenpox and 90 people die from the disease. The most common complication from chickenpox is bacterial infection of the skin. The next most common problems are viral or bacterial pneumonia and encephalitis.
