Yes, the bacteria lives in the cat’s saliva, so it can spread from whatever has there saliva on it such as cat bites, or from their hair, or from just licking and open wound on a person. Fleas and ticks that have been on an infected cat and then bite a person can also spread the disease – a good reason for flea and tick control on your pets.
