Sure, there is no set rule on the cream cheese frosting, it just happens to be the one most popular and preferred by most people. I on the other hand do not like cream cheese and use vanilla frosting with either pecans or walnuts added. You can make your own frosting or to cheat buy the Betty Crocker frosting in a can. Both are good and I will use the canned when on a time crunch or to lazy to make the frosting. Good luck and best wishes.
