Can Calendar be Used even in First and Second Grade?
The answer to this question is yes. Just change your content. Cut out the fluff (singing months of the year, days of the week, etc.). These skills are mastered in Pre-K and Kindergarten. One of the most important skills introduced and continued in First and Second Grade is place value. To develop this knowledge, we must remember to teach first concrete and then abstract. In First Grade, when this skill is introduced, not every First Grader understands that a ten stick is ten ones.
