Can buying pointe shoes cause financial insecurity?
I suppose it could. I used to teach pointe and some girls could not take my class, they would get one pair and the would die and I would tell them they had to get new ones as it is not safe to dance on dead shoes and they would have to quit. It depends a lot on how often you take pointe and how well you try and preserve them. A lot of people put a hardener in the box or on the shank to keep them a bit longer and you have to allow them to dry, so it is actually a good idea to have more than one pair at a time. It is also cheaper to get pro. fitted and buy your first pair at the dance store and if you are happy with the shoes continue to get them online. Sometimes you can also find good buys $20-$30 a pair on ebay. Most pointe shoes have a dance life of 8 hours, so if you dance 1 hour a week they should last 2 months if you dance 8 hours a week on pointe you will go through a pair a week. Just depends on your personal money situation.
