Can bites from Brown Recluse Spiders result in death?
Although highly unlikely, deaths from a Brown Recluse Spider bite can occur. Children and the elderly are especially at risk. An autopsy confirmed that a 5 year old boy recently died from a Brown Recluse bite. Brown Recluse spiders can result in significant medical problems. One person was bit on the spinal column and her brain swelled up with fluid. Another person was bit on the tongue while she was sleeping and experienced a necrotic wound on her tongue. Others have suffered through amputations or huge necrotic wounds 10″ or more in diameter.
